Douglas Laing & Company was established in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing, affectionately known “in the trade” as FDL. Today Douglas Laing remains a proud family owned business headed by FDL’s son – also Fred – and his granddaughter, Cara. Together, across three generations, we bring you Douglas Laing’s Provenance range of Single Malts from around the diverse Whisky making regions of Scotland. From the Lowlands, the Highlands, Speyside, Campeltown and Islay, the region in which the Whiskies are distilled has a significant impact on the character of the spirit, and so, the name “Provenance” from the French verb “provenir” (to come from) is particularly fitting.
Like the 1st generation of the Douglas Laing family, the 2nd and 3rd also want you to enjoy the finest Single Malt exactly as the distiller intended – without colouring and without chill filtration, so that the naturally present oils, fats and enzymes in the Whisky make their own special contribution to the nose, mouthfeel, palate and finish.
We have earmarked certain carefully selected casks – setting them aside for bottling as the finest examples of the distiller’s craft. Each and every cask is endorsed by Fred Laing – a man who enjoys, knows and loves his Whiskies. His emphasis is on the enjoyment and we hope that is similarly shared by you."
